About

Jason Reifler studies public opinion and political behaviour — what and how people think about politics. Much of his work asks why mistaken beliefs persist and whether corrections produce lasting change in factual beliefs; he also studies public attitudes towards foreign policy, defence and security. His research is quantitative, combining surveys and survey experiments with lab and field experiments and computational social science. He has led large international research projects funded by the European Research Council, ESRC, NSF (US), and the Volkswagen Foundation. His teaching is mostly in political behaviour (broadly defined), and he welcomes enquiries from prospective PhD students working in these areas. He also supports Tottenham Hotspur — or, as he puts it, "an ongoing lesson in belief maintenance in the face of disconfirming evidence".
