Linley is a senior teaching fellow in the School of Geography and Environmental Science teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level across Geography and Environmental Science modules. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and Chartered Geographer with a specialism in coastal geomorphology.
Linley has gained experience from a career in academia, research and industry where he worked as a Principal Consultant on marine, fluvial and terrestrial projects for clients including water utilities, the Environment Agency and port & harbour authorities. Projects have included flood relief and coastal defence schemes, water quality and sediment transport and the role of nature-based solutions in carbon reduction.
His research interests focus primarily on the role of contemporary storm activity in modifying the coastal landscape, and the depositional signatures of extreme storms and tsunamis. This has led to ongoing research collaboration with colleagues from the University of Trieste (Italy) and the University of Malta. The findings from this research have been published in leading geomorphology journals where he is regularly invited to peer-review manuscripts for publication.
Linley also leads on departmental Outreach and Engagement.
