About

I'm a Lecturer in Digital Media within the Film Studies department. I'm also Programme Lead for the BA Film, TV, and Digital Media degree.

My academic interests sit somewhere roughly between media and cultural studies, continental philosophy, and intellectual history, concerned with digital cultures, critical theories and discourses, and the civic role of the humanities. Across these broad and varied areas, I focus particularly on the cultivation of audiences, identities, and public personae, the shifting meanings and valences of philosophical concepts across historical and cultural contexts, and ethico-aesthetic practices of selfhood. My most recent monograph is Speaking Philosophically: Communication at the Limits of Discursive Reason (London: Bloomsbury, 2023).

I'm a contributing editor for Angelaki: Journal of the Theoretical Humanities. I also currently act as external examiner for the MA Mass Communications degree at Liverpool John Moores University and between 2021-2025 held the same role for the BA Media Communications at Bath Spa University.
