Current research

Danyang specialises in close relationship wellbeing, social cognition, and AI-mediated health interventions. As both a researcher and a certified therapist, her work bridges psychological research and real-world practice, with a particular focus on translating psychological science into accessible, evidence-based interventions that support individual and relational wellbeing.

Her current ESRC-funded research draws on attachment theory (close emotional bonds with significant others) and attribution theory (how people interpret and explain the causes of events), to better understand the psychological processes underlying romantic relationship quality.

More broadly, her research explores how attachment security enhancement can be integrated with cognitive restructuring techniques to support healthier patterns of thinking and relating. Building on this work, she is also interested in how AI-mediated approaches, e.g., chatbots, can translate these psychological principles into scalable and accessible interventions, with the ultimate goal of helping individuals develop healthier and more secure relationships.
