Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative

Project overview

The Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI) integrates scientific and humanistic knowledge to inform deep-ocean policy, governance, and stewardship by engaging with policymakers, cultivating capacity and diplomacy, and creating community. DOSI is embodied by a network of experts from over 115 countries who practice deep-ocean science, governance and other activities. DOSI builds upon collaborations formed during the Census of Marine Life project (2000-2010) and INDEEP project (2011-2017), and the desire among deep-ocean scientists to make their research accessible to policymakers. DOSI was thus formed to develop new ideas for sustainable use and management of deep-ocean resources based on science.
