Project overview
Margaret Cavendish was a 17th century poet, playwright, scientist, essayist, biographer, and philosopher. This project will deliver the first comprehensive interpretation and assessment of Cavendish's aesthetic and ethics. It will explore Cavendish's views on such topics as the beauty of the natural world, the emotional power of music, the nature of virtue, and the educational role of literature.
The project involves a collaboration with Colchester Museums. It will culminate in a new display on Cavendish's life and writings in the city of her birth.
