Hartley Library is home to historically important archives and manuscripts. Explore them as part of group projects and individual research work under the guidance of leading historians in the field.

  • Wellington papers: this unique collection of around 100,000 items covers the political, military, official and diplomatic papers of the first Duke of Wellington
  • Palmerston papers: the papers of the third Viscount Palmerston total around 40,000 items and span his ministerial career until his death as Prime Minister in 1865
  • Mountbatten papers: this special collection contains a wealth of papers detailing the foundation of the states of India and Pakistan
  • Parkes archives: home to Jewish archives covering Anglo-Jewish history in the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries
