Southampton Photonics Impact Scholarship

There are 3 scholarships available to international students applying to study MSc Optical Engineering. If you are awarded this scholarship, you'll get £15,000.

Eligibility

To get this scholarship you must:

  • have an offer to study MSc Optical Engineering at The University of Southampton
  • be an international student paying the overseas fee
  • not be in receipt of any external sponsorship covering 100% of the tuition fees

How to apply

To apply for this scholarship:

  1. apply to study MSc Optical Engineering
  2. email your CV and a motivation statement (500-word limit) to Dr Morten Ibsen (mi@orc.soton.ac.uk), by 7 April 2025, 5pm (UK time)

We cannot accept late applications. If your application is successful, you will receive a confirmation email by 28 April 2025. 

Your motivation statement should cover: 

  • why you have chosen to study MSc Photonics and Optical Engineering, and why you feel you should be a recipient of a Photonics Impact Scholarship 
  • where you consider will be the biggest impact from photonics and optical engineering based technologies in the future
  • what your career aspirations are in the fields of photonics and optical engineering, and how receiving a Photonics Impact Scholarship will help you to achieve these.

How we award scholarships

This is a competitive process and not all applicants will be successful.

The selection team will award this scholarship to a total of 3 students by assessing your CV, motivation statement, and academic track-record.
