Zhixiu Yan is a Postgraduate Research Student in Microbiology within National Biofilm Innovation Centre at the University of Southampton. She focuses on the research of second messenger signalling pathway and the interpretation of protein structure by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy.

Academic Qualifications:

Research interests

Zhixiu is reading her PhD towards molecular microbiology and she is focusing on the interpretation of the signalling pathway of cyclic di-GMP, which plays an important role in the regulation of downstream gene transcription and phenotypes such as biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance through the binding of proteins in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with the help of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer.

PhD Supervision: Prof Jeremy Webb, Dr Joern Werner, Dr Shiqi An

PhD research title: Structure and functional insight into cyclic di-GMP binding protein that regulates biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa
