Dr Davide Lasagna's photo

Dr Davide Lasagna is Research Fellow within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

Davide is a research fellow in the Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics group at University of Southampton since February 2013. He is working on an EPSRC funded project to develop a new approach for stability and control of fluid flows, based on recent progresses in the application of Sum of Squares of polynomials and semidefinite programming. Within this project, his main research focus is on simulation and low order modelling of turbulent Taylor-Couette flow.


He obtained his PhD in Experimental Fluid Mechanics at Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 2013, where he investigated the physics and the control of the flow in trapped vortex cells, following the work on the same subject as assistant researcher for the EU FP6 Project VortexCell2050.


In the same institution he obtained his BSc, (2006), and MSc, (2008), in Aerospace engineering.

  • actve and passive methods for control of fluid flows
  • flow state estimation
  • modelling of complex flows
  • machine learning methods for flow control (artificial neural networks, evolutionary heuristics)
  • experimental methods in fluid mechanics
