Ivo Peters is a Lecturer in the Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics Research Group at the University of Southampton.

His research focusses on:

- The non-Newtonian behaviour of suspensions and their transient response to interactions with boundaries

- Dynamic jamming of granular materials, from microscopic particles to large scale behaviour of densely packed icebergs

- Free surface flows related to the collapse of surface cavities and jet formation

Ivo has obtained his PhD degree in Physics at the University of Twente in 2012 with a thesis titled “Free surface flow focusing”. After this, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the James Franck Institute at the University of Chicago until 2015, where he studied the dynamics of dense granular suspensions, specifically related to the jamming transition.

Research interests

- Solidification of dense suspensions resulting from impact and strong shear

- Splashing of suspension droplets

- Dynamic jamming of densely packed icebergs

- Collapse of surface cavities

- Flat plate impact on water surfaces

- Lubricating flows
