Edith Darin joined WorldPop in 2018 to support population modelling in the GRID3 project. She helps developing innovative methods for high-resolution mapping of populations in countries with limited or no census data. She is the lead modeller for Burkina Faso sub-project in collaboration with the Burkinabe national Statistics office.
Edith earned a MSc in applied GIS and Remote Sensing at the University of Southampton, where she wrote her thesis on deprived area mapping, a topic at the intersection between Geographic Information Systems, Statistical Modelling, and Social Sciences. She also has a strong background in Statistics (MSc from the ENSAE Paristech) and Social Sciences (Master at ENS Cachan) and their intrications.
Edith applied her skills in academia (Worldpop, University of Southampton), in humanitarian agency (UN World Food program) and in governmental structure (Etalab, France) always combining a strive for social justice and transparency with an indecent pleasure in playing with data.
