Current research

I am currently working on the following projects.

Explorations in Polytonality and Other Musical Wonders is a series of compositions I began in 2020. Each volume in the series features a suite of pieces. Each piece investigates a technical approach within music composition (e.g., polytonality, metric modulations); historical textures (e.g., organum, heterophony); and historical forms (e.g. rondo, round). The project investigates new potentialities for these techniques, textures, and forms, with particular focus on approaches out of circulation within contemporary music making.

Made in collaboration with visual artist Laura Spark, Hey Hey It’s Tuesday, an imaginary variety show for film and love percussionists. There is no host but a trio of live percussionists accompanies the audience through the screening. The montage of acts includes the young and the old, amateur and professional, intentional and unintentional, human and blowhole. Speak Percussion, Hey Hey's very own house band, intermingle with the vaudeville acts to heighten and disrupt. While the sense of ‘when’ is indefinite, the ‘where’ is most definitely Australian TV.
