William  Harper BA English and Philosophy 2013

William Harper's Photo

Hi, I'm William Harper and I studied BA English and Philosophy within Humanities at the University of Southampton.

I’d never studied Philosophy before, so I found it challenging to begin with, but I got much more into it as the course went on.

What are the highlights of your time here?

The social life has been great; my first year was my highlight. I was in Glen Eyre Halls, where there was a really good atmosphere, with great people.

Would you recommend the programme to others?

I would definitely recommend it, the best thing about combined honours is that you get to do the best modules from each course – I always got to do exactly what I wanted to do at different times.

What are your ambitions for the future?

Iwant to work in the media as I’ve got a more creative skill set.

What do you think about the teaching you received?

Aaron Ridley in Philosophy was an incredibly interesting teacher, even for someone like me who wasn’t familiar with Philosophy before I came here, he made it easier to understand – he put Philosophy in layman’s terms.
