Coming to study from Luxembourg

If you want to take an undergraduate course with us but do not yet have the qualifications needed to apply, we may offer a foundation course that will enable you to qualify and secure a place.

The Luxembourgish equivalents for their entry requirements will depend on which of these one-year intensive introductions you apply for.  

Foundation year for engineering, maths or physics

If you're missing the requirements for either mathematics or physics, the Foundation year for engineering, maths or physics prepares you to take up one of 19 undergraduate degrees in engineering, maths or physics.

To apply for it you need:

• a minimum of 42 points with 1 subject at 52 points, and
• 2 subjects at 48 points

Science Foundation Year

If you're not studying two sciences as required by most of our science courses, the Science Foundation Year prepares you to take many of our science undergraduate degrees. After successful completion, you'll have guaranteed entry onto year 1 of your course.

To apply for it you need:

• a minimum of 42 points with 1 subject at 52 points, and
• 2 subjects at 48 points

OnCampus undergraduate foundation programmes

The OnCampus undergraduate foundation programmes, which are run by our partner and prepare international students for a variety of degrees, including art, business, the humanities, science, engineering and more

Most of our undergraduate degrees take 3 years to complete full time and award a bachelor’s degree in the field you study.

To study with us at undergraduate level, you need a Diplome de Fin d'Etudes secondaires with:

• an overall grade between 40 and 48 points, and
• up to three subjects with grades between 48 and 52 points

Alternatively, we accept one of the following, with the minimum grade or score dependent on which course you're applying for:

• UK A levels with grades from BBB to A*AA, or
• an International Baccalaureate (IB) score of between 30 and 38 points

Luxembourgish equivalents to UK A levels

These qualifications are subject to change following a review of the overall grade requirements. They will be updated in December 2025. You will still need to meet the subject requirements as listed. See your course page for the exact requirements you'll need to meet.

Overall equivalency grades are:

• A*AA: a grade of 48 points, with 3 subjects at 52 points
• AAA: a grade of 46 points, with 3 subjects at 52 points
• AAB: a grade of 44 points, with 2 subjects at 52 points and 1 subject at 48 points
• ABB: a grade of 42 points, with 1 subject at 52 points and 2 subjects at 48 points
• BBB: a grade of 40 points, with 3 subjects at 54 points

The OnCampus pre-master's programmes prepare international students for studying at the master’s degree level. They take place over 2 semesters and focus on improving English language, study and research skills.

If you have a UK 2:2 degree equivalent (a grade of 13) but need a 2:1 equivalent (a grade of 14), successfully completing a programme will secure you a place on your chosen degree.

To apply for a pre-master's programme, you need:

• English language skills from 5.0 IELTS or equivalent (with no single element less than 5.0)

Our postgraduate taught degrees involve more advanced study and usually take 1 year, depending on the course. Degrees awarded include master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas and certificates.

To apply, you need:

• a bachelors degree from the University of Luxembourg, with
• an overall grade of 14 or more out of 20 - equivalent to UK 2:1

Depending on which course you apply for, your minimum grade requirement will be a:

• first class UK degree equivalent, with a grade of 15
• UK 2:1 degree equivalent, with a grade of 14
• UK 2:2 degree equivalent, with a grade of 13

To study for a PhD or research degree with us, you need all of the following:

• a 2:1 undergraduate honours degree (equivalent to a grade 14)
• a master's degree with merit (equivalent to a grade 14)
• a strong research proposal

Qualifying degrees must have been awarded by a UK ENIC recognised university.
