Dr Samuel Guerin is a Principal Knowledge Transfer Fellow within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Southampton.
Samuel is leading the Material Innovation Laboratory (MiLab) facility.
Samuel studied physics in Tours (France) and material science in Bordeaux (France), then came to Southampton to study for a PhD, joining the surface science and electrochemistry groups.
After a PDRA position (Southampton), he took up a position as experimental officer to support the start of the Material Combinatorial Centre. This led to the development of the HT-ePVD technique which enabled high-throughput thin film material synthesis and exploration. This led to co-founding Ilika Technologies Ltd in 2004. From 2006 until 2023 he remained at Ilika, becoming a technical director and participating in many technological developments in high-throughput and thin film material research.
In December 2023, he returned to the University to oversee the restructuring of the high-throughput material research facilities and the start of the Material Innovation Laboratory.
