Catherine is Research Fellow based in the Primary Care Research Centre at the University of Southampton. She is an experienced qualitative researcher, often involved in interview-based research (including process evaluations of large clinical trials), and research focussed on understanding healthcare communication. Catherine received specialist methodological training in Conversation Analysis from the University of York and University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Her main research interests centre on mental health in primary care and communication. She is currently leading an SPCR-funded project called the REMOTION Study, which is an exploration of how emotional concerns are discussed and managed in telephone versus face-to-face consultations. She is also leading a process evaluation of trial called REDUCE (led by Prof. Tony Kendrick), which is exploring the individual and contextual factors that support or inhibit antidepressant discontinuation.
Outside of work, Catherine is a keen runner, and she is Chair of a local running club in the Southampton Community. She also volunteers for a leading charity in the UK aimed at suicide prevention.
