I graduated in Modern Languages and Literatures (Portuguese and French with teaching components), at the University of Aveiro. After my graduation, I worked in Education as a teacher of Portuguese and French language and culture in Secondary Schools and Adult Education in Portugal as well as in Teacher Training programmes in Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau, through projects of cooperation in the education field between Portugal and those two countries.
I completed a MA programme in Portuguese Teaching as a Second and Foreign Languages at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal.
I have been teaching languages and cultures in a variety of contexts since September 1999 and have been working in the Higher Education in the UK since January 2010. I worked as a language coordinator at the University of Birmingham - department of Modern Languages for over five years before joining the department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton as a Teaching Fellow of Portuguese, in 2016.
Currently, I convene and teach Portuguese language modules at Intermediate (Year 2) and Advanced levels (Year 4). I also contribute to other modules and courses by moderating Portuguese language assessments at Beginners levels (Year 1); supervising and marking the Year Abroad dissertations LANG2010 (Year 2) and LANG3005 (Year 3) and MA ELT/TESOL dissertations.
In addition to my teaching, I hold the position of Programme Lead for the BA Language, Culture and Communication and the Year Abroad Country Coordinator for Portuguese Speaking countries.
