Mrs Lakshi Doorgakunt

Given her extensive practical experience in auditing and accounting, Lakshi is very passionate about teaching the following courses: principles of audit and taxation, financial accounting, financial information analysis and markets and accounting and finance for actuarial science. These courses give her the opportunity to blend her practical and academic knowledge and consequently enhance student engagement and experience.

In the short span of time that Lakshi has been with the University, her quality of teaching practice was evidenced by her nomination for the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and Southampton University Student Union (SUSU) Awards for best external resource/reading list, most engaging lecturer and best academic support.

Lakshi is a two-time winner of the Vice Chancellor's Award in the category of Teaching,in 2022 and as part of Sustainability Reporting Team, in 2023. 

Lakshi has worked almost 10 years as an auditor in audit firms such as KPMG, Grant Thornton and Barclays Bank. As an academic, she has held junior roles (such as Tutor and Lecturer) at Griffith University and the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, to mid-career roles (Senior Lecturer) at Kaplan Business School, Australia.

During her tenure in her previous positions, she has also been involved in the curriculum development of  various auditing and financial accounting modules both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. She has also been involved in teaching Financial Reporting, Auditing, and Strategic Management Accounting with Australian Professional Bodies such as CPA. 

Lakshi has attended and presented papers at prestigious conferences such as The European Auditing Research Network (EarNet) Conference, BAFA and the Accounting and Accountability in Emerging Economies (AAEE) conference at University of Essex.
