About
Dr Renata Konadu is the Director of the Centre for Excellence in Sustainability Accounting and Reporting (CESAR) and a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at Southampton Business School, University of Southampton. She also serves on the Faculty’s Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability Committee and leads initiatives that strengthen the School’s engagement with SMEs, charities, and local organisations on sustainability reporting and accountability.
Renata currently teaches Sustainability Reporting and Sustainability Accounting. She has previously contributed to the design, delivery, and assessment of a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including Corporate Reporting, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Corporate Governance, Investment Analysis, Environmental Accounting, International Development in Accounting, Governance and Sustainability, and Governance and Social Responsibility.

Current research
Renata’s research focuses on sustainability reporting, carbon accounting, sustainable development, and corporate governance. Her work examines how organisations account for and communicate their sustainability performance, and how governance and digital innovations can enhance transparency and accountability.
She has published in high-ranking journals, including Business Strategy and the Environment, Corporate Governance: The International Journal of Business and Society, and the International Journal of Disclosure and Governance. Renata has presented her research at international and national conferences, workshops, and seminars, and received funding from the British Council/Newton Fund Researcher Links to attend a workshop on Climate Change Finance in Brazil.
Renata is an experienced supervisor of PhD, master’s, and undergraduate student projects, and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for leading journals such as the British Journal of Management and the International Review of Financial Analysis.
She recently completed two funded projects — supporting SMEs to prepare sustainability reports in line with the GRI Standards, and contributing to the development of the National Corporate Governance Code for Ghana. She is currently developing a PhD project proposal within the SustAI Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), exploring AI-enabled sustainability reporting and assurance for the circular economy.

Biography
Dr Renata Konadu the University of Southampton Business School in September 2021, having previously lectured at De Montfort University. Earlier in her career, she also held part-time lecturing positions at Bournemouth University and the University of East London.
Renata became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in 2017 and is both a Certified Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Professional and a Certified ESRS Sustainability Professional. She holds a PhD from Bournemouth University, an MSc from the University of Stirling, and a BSc from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Ghana.
She is a member of several professional and academic associations, including the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA), the British Academy of Management (BAM), the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
