Joe graduated with a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University in 2016. In 2017, he graduated from University of Sheffield with a MSc Advanced Control and Systems Engineering, where the individual project for this degree was Thrust estimation in Turbofan Engines, which was a research project run within the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre. After this he carried out his doctoral research in the Signal Processing, Audio and Hearing Group within the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) on the subject of active acoustic metamaterials for high performance noise control. This research project was jointly funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and BAE Systems via an iCase PhD studentship. Following the completion of his PhD, Joe currently works as a Research Fellow in Active Control within the ISVR, which is funded by the BAE System Prosperity Partnership.
