About

Yadira is a Lecturer in Creative Computing. Her interdisciplinary practice bridges arts, technology, and science, reframing conversations around the digital divide to centre community agency and self-determination in technological decision making.

Her research foregrounds community expertise and lived experiences in co-designing technologies, working primarily with and along rural and Indigenous communities in Mexico. Current projects include Tecnomilpa - a collective working in themes concerning education delivery and community-led technology, such as developing solar powered mesh networks for rural connectivity along her community and neighbouring communities.

She completed her PhD at Southampton's Social Sciences Department and Web Science Institute, focusing on community-led algorithmic ecologies and technological sovereignty. Her teaching integrates critical computing perspectives with practical programming skills, building for low-power computing needs and telecommunications technologies.
