Biography

Ahmed M. Abozaid is a Political Scientist from Egypt. I am a Teaching Fellow of International Security and International Relations at the Department of Politics and International Relations. Before Joining Southampton, I was a fellow at Columbia University’s Program on Exiting Violence between October 2021 to November 2022.

I published several monographs in Arabic and English, including Undesired Revolution: The Arab Uprising in Egypt (Brill 2023), and Counterterrorism Strategies in Egypt (Routledge, 2022). In Arabic, he published 9 books including Theories of War and Peace, 2vols (Qatar University Press, 2024), and more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in leading peer-reviewed English & Arabic journals.

According to Arab Citation & Impact Factor, since 2012 I have been continuously listed among the top three most cited and most influential Arab scholars among 3000 researchers from over 22 countries in the fields of Political Science and International Relations.

I hold a PhD from the University of St Andrews (UK) in International Relations and Political Theory, where I was affiliated researcher with the Honda Center for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (2018-2022).

My work is located at the intersection of Political Theory, International Relations, International Political Sociology, Postcolonial/Decolonial Thought, and International Security of the Global South.
