Jacqueline Nightingale is a PhD researcher at the University of Southampton Law School. Her interdisciplinary work examines governance of the ocean commons to determine the alignment of climate science and social justice within the legal frameworks.
She is currently also a Policy Associate with Public Policy Southampton, working with the SARTRAC project.
Jacqueline’s research in ocean governance considers how effectively the latest climate science is incorporated into decision making around the ocean commons and what that means for social justice in the process. Her review examines the infrastructure that translates science into policy and action for marine areas beyond national jurisdiction.
This work is funded by a Leverhulme Studentship for “Intelligent Oceans” through the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute.
Jacqueline holds a BSc in Marine Biology with Oceanography from the University of Southampton and an LLB in English and French Law from the University of Kent at Canterbury. Her professional focus has been international leadership for non-profit organisational development, with expertise in strategic planning, risk management and multi-entity decision making for human rights.
