Collaboration with industry is central to how the Functional Flexible Glass Group operates. We work closely with partners across aerospace, energy, materials, and sensing sectors to ensure that research addresses real operational requirements and constraints.
Engagements range from short technical advisory activities through to postgraduate study and multiyear collaborative research programmes. Typical activities include feasibility studies, sensor and system design, optical fibre and flat glass fabrication trials, prototype development, and independent technical assessment.
The group also supports translation through incubation, of Asterium Technologies, which develops flat optical fibre sensing and compact interrogation technologies for condition monitoring in high value engineered systems. This activity seeks a direct pathway from academic research to industrial adoption and long-term partnership.
