Research project

Empathico for Medical Students

Project overview

EMPathicO is a very brief e-learning package rigorously developed to enhance primary care practitioners’ communication of clinical empathy and realistic optimism. A trial of EMPathicO in 53 GP surgeries in UK primary care found it had lasting benefits for practitioners’ self-efficacy, practitioners found EMPathicO relevant, engaging, and helpful and suggested it was also relevant for trainees and students. This project aims to adapt EMPathicO for the undergraduate medical student curriculum. The objectives are to identify barriers to engagement with EMPathicO and how to remedy these, and facilitators to engagement with EMPathicO and how to harness these.
