Stefan Cross Centre for Women, Equality and Law

Diverse group of women collaborating round a table, using pens and paper

Founded in 2018, the Centre explores structural, societal, legal and regulatory issues associated with gender discrimination, raises awareness, investigates the causes and seeks better solutions.

Part of Law

Southampton Law School launched the Stefan Cross Centre for Women, Equality & Law (SCC) in September 2018, thanks to a generous donation from Southampton Law School alumnus, Mr Stefan Cross KC. The SCC provides a forum to study the structural, societal, legal and regulatory issues associated with gender discrimination from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Our research seeks to better understand the roots of the phenomenon, with the aim of promoting more effective ways to address it.

The SCC aims to disseminate its research through a variety of channels (including academic publications, conferences, and participation in government consultation processes) to inform policy, drive change and, ultimately, reduce discrimination.

As Centre Director, I hope the centre can inspire those working for women’s equality and achieve change by bringing different voices together.
