These programmes are designed to help you gain new skills and understand more about university study and future pathways.
Pre-16 summer schools
Our pre‑16 summer schools and residential courses give younger learners the chance to explore new subjects and take part in hands‑on learning in a supportive environment. You’ll use our world‑class facilities, stay in our halls of residence, join taster sessions and get a real insight into student life. We can offer free places if you meet our Widening Participation eligibility criteria.

Medicine LifeLab Summer SchoolThe LifeLab Summer School is for students in Years 9 to 11 who want to learn more about becoming a doctor. Join us for 2 days at University Hospital Southampton.

Year 10 Summer SchoolJoin our Year 10 Summer School in Southampton to experience university life first-hand and build your confidence and understanding of higher education.
Over-16 summer schools
Our university summer schools for Year 12 students provide opportunity to explore subjects in depth before you apply. On our Electronics and Computer Science courses, you’ll take part in real experiments using our specialist facilities. You’ll explore the cutting‑edge interface between electronics and healthcare technologies on our Biomedical Engineering course. If you’re interested in becoming a doctor, you can try our online Experience Medicine course with LifeLab or join our Widening Access to Medicine Taster Course.

Electronics and Computer SciencesYear 12 students can join us for one of our week long residential taster courses to experience what it is like to study Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or Biomedical Engineering. -
Medicine with Lifelab onlineStudents in Years 10 to 13 are invited to join us online for a 6-week course to learn more about becoming a doctor.

Sutton Trust Summer SchoolYear 12 students are invited to join our 4-day, 3-night residential. You’ll experience the academic and social sides of student life at Southampton, with 8 subject areas to choose from. -
Widening Access to MedicineOur Widening Access to Medicine taster course is for Year 12 students who want to study Medicine at university and plan to apply through a widening access programme.
