Entry requirements

Foundation year entry requirements

If you do not have the traditional entry requirements for our undergraduate courses, you may be able to qualify by doing one of our foundation programmes first. To find out more, visit our foundation years page or contact the International Office team .

Undergraduate entry requirements

To be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees, you will need:

UK A levels with grades from BBB to A*AA
International Baccalaureate (IB) with grades from 30 to 38
Abitur (Zeignis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife), achieving a minimum overall grade between 2.2 and 1.4 with at least 12 or 13 out of 15 in advanced level (Leistungskurse) subjects or subjects relevant to the chosen undergraduate course

Postgraduate entry requirements

Masters programmes Bachelor / Magister Artium / Diplom / Erstes Staatsexamen (First State Examination) with grades of 1.5 - 2.5 / Befriedigend or Gut - equivalent to a UK 2:1
PhD programmes Good grades in bachelors and masters degrees awarded by a recognised university, and a strong research proposal

LLM (Master of Laws)

Erste Juristische Staatsprüfung / LLB / LLM Grade 7 – 9. (Equivalent to a UK 2:1 degree).

English language entry requirements

You will need to be able to demonstrate the required level of English language proficiency. Students from Germany who have achieved 11 out of 15 or 2 out of 6 in English language at advanced level (Leistungskurse) as part of the Abitur, OR the DAAD English Language test with grades 4*(B2) or 5*(C1), may be exempted from additional English language requirements.

Getting involved in clubs and societies is a great way to meet other students from your country and from around the world. There are many societies run by the University's Students' Union (SUSU) for different interests, religions, sports and academic groups.
