Mike Price is a Postgraduate Research Student at the University of Southampton. He graduated with a MSc in Neuroscience in 2019 with both dissertation projects based around different components of the circadian rhythm, using model organism Drosophila melanogaster in the Wijnen lab.

Mike also undertook summer placements in the Wijnen lab in 2018 and 2017 through the Excel Internship and John W Caddick Vacation Scholarship respectively.

2015-2019: MSc in Neuroscience, University of Southampton

2019 Dissertation: ‘per and cyc selective rescues show pacemaking role of Morning subsets in Drosophila circadian clocks is transferred to Evening subsets in red light’

Jun-Sep 2018: ‘Research in Biological Clocks’ (Excel Internship)

2018 Dissertation: ‘What are the spatial requirements for Cry and Jet to allow for behavioural entrainment to extreme photocycles?’

Jun-Sep 2017: ‘Photocycle-mediated plasticity of Sleep/Wake Behaviour’ (John W Caddick Vacation Scholarship)

Research interests

My research is based around gaining a greater understanding of how circadian rhythms synchronise with the environment and the specific coordination required throughout the brain to do this.
