Dr Mahmoud Al-Sayed

Mahmoud has a degree in Economics (2001), a master degree in Accounting and Finance (2005) and a PhD in Management Accounting (2010). He was awarded his PhD unconditionally, without amendments, for the thesis titled “Management Accounting Innovations in the UK Manufacturing Sector: With Special Emphasis on ABC Paradox”. His research was recognised and supported by CIMA - Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Prior to joining the University of Southampton in 2010, he worked as a management accountant in manufacturing sector and as a part-time teaching assistant in the School of Economics, Management and Finance – University of Bristol.

Mahmoud is a Higher Education Academy Teaching Fellow since 2013 and has received the Vice Chancellor's Award for Teaching in 2016.

Research interests

Mahmoud is passionate about research excellence in management accounting and control. He is interested in:

- Management accounting and control in contexts like world-class manufacturing firms, NGOs, SMEs, education and religious institutions

- Investigating the relationship between Innovation, Technology and Accounting.

His recent research focused on the diffusion of MA innovations and the influence of ICT on management accounting and accountants.

PhD students are welcome to send their proposals in the above areas.
