Tapas Mishra is an Associate Professor of financial econometrics at the Centre for Computational Finance & Business Analysis. Prior to joining Southampton Business School in 2014, Tapas served as an Associate Professor of Time Series Econometrics at the School of Management, Swansea University.

Tapas joined an integrated MSc and PhD program under the European Doctoral Program at the Centre for Operations Research and Econometrics, Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium and completed an MSc in Quantitative Economics with distinction. He completed PhD under Professor David de la Croix. Tapas also completed an M.Phil degree in economics from the Delhi School of Economics under the supervision of Prof. Pami Dua and a post-doc in economic theory and macroeconometrics under Prof. Claude Diebolt at BETA, University of Strasbourg, France. 

Prior to joining academics, Tapas has served in different capacities at leading (inter) national think tanks, such as International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), and Technical University of Vienna both in Austria, Institute for Future Studies in Sweden, and Institute of Economic Growth in New Delhi, India.

Tapas has been awarded a number of prestigious scholarships, such as Ford Foundation-Winrock International Fellowship, CORE Fellowship, IIASA post-doc fellowship, National Scholarship and Junior Research Fellowship (from the Government of India), and Marie-Curie Fellowship.

Tapas has been awarded a number of prestigious research projects that include, among others, Leverhulme Trust, Ford Foundation-Winrock International, and Swedish Research Council.

Tapas has also undertaken a number of administrative duties in the past, which includes roles as Internationalisation Officer, Examination Officer, REF panel member, and member of University Impact Working Group.

Due to his innovative teaching, in 2013, Tapas was awarded the student nominated Excellence in Teaching and Learning/Distinguished Teaching Award from Swansea University.

Since 2010, Tapas has been serving on the editorial board of Cliometrica.

  • Risk, uncertainty and stochasticity in growth and finance
  • Spatio-temporal econometrics, quantile regression
  • Political economy of heterogeneous environment quality,
  • Social cohesion and uncertain growth,
  • Professional forecasters’ inattentiveness and expectation formation,
  • Spatial volatility and its impact on convergence.
