Facilities

Our world-class buildings such as the award-winning EEE building, interdisciplinary Mountbatten complex and the Life Sciences building have contributed to the University of Southampton’s status as one of the best learning environments in the UK. These facilities are a result of an investment of £200 million.

Key facts

The University provides a wealth of social, arts and leisure facilities for students.

Off campus, you will find all the transport, shopping and leisure facilities you would expect from a multicultural city with a population of over 200,000 people.

Wireless and networked high-speed internet access is widely available across all campuses and in all five libraries.

We provide outstanding in-house facilities and services to postgraduates within Chemistry.

Investment in research

The facilities offered in Chemistry are among the best in the UK, largely due to the funding we secure each year for our research. As a postgraduate, you will have access to this equipment and expertise.

Our research laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to support researchers who require complex and custom-designed equipment and specialist support.

We endeavour to meet any specific requirements of our research programmes. For example, programmes in theoretical chemistry require powerful computational facilities and these are provided in a redeveloped computational suite as well as in a suite of dedicated Silicon Graphics workstations.

We provide a number of expert services to support researchers who require complex and custom-designed equipment and specialist support.

Access to IT

Postgraduates access a range of IT equipment and services at the Graduate School of Chemistry. These include high-speed wireless internet access, network points for laptops and public workstations.

Students with a disability, specific learning difficulty or chronic medical condition can take advantage of our specialist equipment and assistive technology.
