Entry qualification equivalencies for Malaysian students

Find out the grades and academic qualifications (or their equivalents) that you'll need to study with us in the UK. These will depend on what level of study you're applying for.

You will also need to have your student visa in place and meet English language requirements.

If you want to take an undergraduate course with us but do not yet have the qualifications needed to apply, we may offer a foundation course that will enable you to qualify and secure a place.

The Malaysian equivalents for their entry requirements will depend on which of these one-year intensive introductions you apply for.

They include:

If you're interested in taking a foundation course, contact the international team for the relevant entry requirements.

Most of our undergraduate degrees take 3 years to complete full time and award a bachelor’s degree in the field you study.

To apply for one, you'll need either:

  • the United Examination Certificate, Senior Middle Level with 5 A grades or distinctions only, or
  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) grade A's and Bs with pre-university grades at 85%

If your degree will be in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Maths, you also need:

  • a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 across the Science Matriculation Programme
  • a minimum grade of C+ in the English language examination (curriculum 1119)
  • passes in written and oral English Matriculation Programme tests

All students will be considered on an individual basis.

Our postgraduate taught degrees involve more advanced study and usually take 1 year, depending on the course. Degrees awarded include master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas and certificates.

To apply, you'll usually need a bachelor's degree awarded by a recognised institution with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 out of 4.0.

This will require either:

  • a first class UK degree equivalent, which is a GPA between 3.3 and 3.5 (or, for some awarding institutions, a first), or
  • a UK 2:1 degree equivalent, which is a GPA between 2.8 and 3.0 (or, for some awarding institutions, a 2:1)

To study for a PhD or research degree with us, you need all of the following:

  • a 2:1 undergraduate honours degree
  • a master's degree awarded by a recognised university, with a mark of Merit or a GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • a strong research proposal
