Research interests

My research focuses on the behaviour of precious, critical and base metals (e.g. Au, Ag, Se, Co, Cu, Zn) during the formation, alteration and mineralization of oceanic crust – in particular, how these three processes intersect. I study these systems both in ancient examples of oceanic crust which have been tectonically emplaced onto land, in particular the Oman–UAE ophiolite, and will also take part in IODP South Atlantic Transect Expedition 390/393. This research aims to quantify geochemical exchanges between the crust and the oceans, to identify new potential sources for metals critical to decarbonizing the economy, and to provide frameworks for companies to explore for these metals.
