Paula is Head of Department for Nursing, Midwifery and Health in the School of Health Sciences. She is responsible for the vision and strategy of the Department and the delivery of a range of pre-registration and post-graduate education programmes. She is passionate about making a positive impact on patient experience, service provision and the healthcare workforce, through providing quality education, underpinned by world leading research. Paula employs a creative and flexible solution focussed approach to meet the needs of all involved in health care delivery. She provides exemplary leadership and direction to staff at all levels, whilst teaching students the skills they require for modern healthcare delivery.
Paula is a Registered Nurse by background with a wide range of clinical, education and research experience. Paula has been part of the nursing community for over 30 years influencing the direction of education in the UK. Paula brings with her a strong focus on mental health care and working with people in complex and challenging situations. Paula has worked with and led a range of healthcare professionals to provide quality education that supports contemporary healthcare delivery. Paula's clinical, academic and leadership experience has established her as a highly skilled relational leader in healthcare education.
Paula is the Lead Nurse Education and NMC Official Correspondent for the University. Paula is a QAA Reviewer/NMC Visitor approving nursing programmes in universities across the UK. Paula chairs the Council of Deans of Health South West/South Central England which is the voice of education institutions delivering healthcare programmes. Paula is an Associate Non-Executive Director of Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, the largest mental health Trust in the UK.
