About
Clio Padovani - Emeritus Professor of Textile Practices in the Department of Fashion and Textiles, Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton.
Member, Editorial Board, CRAFTS Journal Online ( 2026).
QAA Advisory Panel member for the QAA Subject Benchmark Statements in Art and Design, published April 2026.
DQB Assessor, QAA, 2022-2024.
I have substantial experience in leadership management and engagement, with more than five years as Chair of the University of Southampton Partnerships Sub Committee, leading senior academics in approvals and monitoring the quality in international collaborations across the University. Most recently I have Co-Chaired the University review of the Personal Academic Tutor system on behalf of the Vice President Education.
My scholarship is based in the practical study and applications of textiles, in particular woven textiles, and how these express cultural and creative traditions of thinking and making. I have exhibited widely, representing the material culture of textiles through weaving and moving images.
I have worked on funded EU projects (2009-2014) developing policies to support innovation and entrepreneurship in artisanal SMEs. My research in linking making by hand, sustainable futures, and luxury industrial production has been presented internationally, published in academic journals and as book chapters.
