Shilpy Bhat is a PhD student at the School of Health Sciences, University of Southampton.
In 2022, she was awarded a UKRI ESRC Studentship in the Population Change, Health and Wellbeing (PCHW) Pathway for her PhD project titled “Cobots: Understanding the Implementation of Collaborative Robots in Health and Social Care.” This project is a collaboration with Hampshire County Council (HCC) and is funded by the South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership (SCDTP).
Shilpy's research focuses on the implementation of ‘Cobots’, known in the literature as the ‘HAL (Hybrid Assistive Limb) lumbar type for care support,’ in adult social care settings within HCC. The Cobot (HAL for care support) is designed to alleviate the risk of back pain by reducing the stress applied to the back, making daily care work easier and more supportive for both caregivers and care receivers.
Shilpy’s work will contribute to understanding technological adoption within the adult care sector by exploring the factors influencing this implementation. Her research aims to provide recommendations based on these findings. Her research is therefore well-positioned to bridge these gaps, contributing valuable insights to the emerging field of technology use for care workers. This includes understanding the real-world implementation of these devices within the adult social care industry.
