About
Stephen joined the University of Southampton in September 2023 and currently works as a Lecturer in Southampton Education School. He is the Associate Programme Lead for the BSc Education & Psychology programme and he teaches on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Education School. He created and serves as the module lead on a philosophy of education module for 3rd year undergraduates. Stephen has also attained Senior Fellow status at Advance HE.
Alongside his teaching responsibilities, Stephen is engaged in a range of research activities covering both philosophical topics and empirical research in education. His areas of philosophical interest include the artistry of teaching, the representation of meaning in teaching, ethics in education and educational research, the implications of AI for teaching, and the narrative self in education. With regard to his empirical research, Stephen is leading a project that seeks to examine how generative AI tools are contributing to and challenging teachers’ research-informed practice.
