About

Dr Choi Tae-Hee is Associate Professor and Director of Internationalisation at the University of Southampton, and Visiting Professor at Korea University. She previously held positions at The Education University of Hong Kong (2013–2022) and King’s College London (2010–2013).

Her research examines educational change driven by policy and broader societal transformations—particularly globalisation and digitalisation—and how different actors engage with these processes. She also works on the intersections between education, governance, and language, with a strong focus on international and comparative perspectives.

Dr Choi has led multiple international research projects across Europe, Asia, and Oceania, funded by major bodies including the British Council, Hong Kong Research Grants Council, and the National Research Foundation of Korea, as well as governments and international organisations. Across her roles as Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator, and consultant, she has generated over £2 million in research income and is currently leading three international projects as PI.

She has published over 130 outputs, including 30+ articles in high-impact journals, and has delivered 80+ keynotes and invited talks across Europe, Asia, and North America.

She has a strong track record of research leadership and capacity building. She currently leads an inter-institutional REF peer review initiative between Southampton and EdUHK. Previously, she founded and led the FEHD Education Policy Research Hub, establishing collaborations with institutions such as the University of Queensland, the University of Strathclyde, and Beijing Normal University, and supporting joint publications, projects, and conferences.

Dr Choi serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Education Policy (SSCI) and the International Journal of Comparative Education and Development, and sits on multiple editorial boards, including that of the Multilingual Education book series (Springer).

She has advised stakeholders in 14 countries, including governments, national agencies, and organisations such as the Asian Productivity Organisation and the British Council, on education reform, system development, and teacher education.

She is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, the Royal Anthropological Institute, and the East-West Center (USA), Co-Convenor of the EERA Policy Studies and Politics of Education Network, and Honorary Professor at the National University of Battambang, Cambodia.
