We operate as a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Recognised Training Centre and offer a wide range of courses for yachtsmen and women of all abilities.
Our yachting activities
We currently offer 3 yachting courses, taught aboard our impressive Sigma 38 yacht named ‘Flying Formula’. Whether you’re a complete beginner, or looking to master the advanced skills needed for day and night navigation, you’re bound to find the right course for you.

Day Skipper PackageNew for 2024, our Day Skipper package is ideal for anyone looking to get their Day Skipper qualification or International Certificate of Competence. -
RYA Competent CrewThese hands-on courses are for yachting beginners looking to gain the skills and experience to become fully active crew members.

RYA Day SkipperAimed at those with some moderate yachting and navigational experience, on this 5 day course you’ll learn to safely skipper a short coastal passage.

RYA Coastal SkipperA course for those with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. Each trainee will skipper more challenging passages under the guidance of the instructor.

Yacht ChartersSkippered yacht charters are available for family and friends of University of Southampton staff. Bareboat charters are available to anyone with the correct qualifications.
