Overview

Up to 4 scholarships are available for international students starting a full-time, on-campus, postgraduate taught programme in one of the following schools:

    £10,000 reduction in your tuition fee

  • Deadline

    30 April 2027, 5pm UK time

Eligibility

To get this scholarship you must:

  • be an international student required to pay the oversees fees
  • have a conditional or unconditional offer to study an eligible Faculty of Social Sciences postgraduate taught programme
  • exceed your course entry requirements
  • be self-funded
  • be resident of one of the eligible countries for the scholarship programme you are applying for 

Check if you will pay the overseas fee.

This global talent scholarship is not available to students studying:   

  • on PGCert, PGDip, Foundation or PGR courses 
  • on Distance Learning courses 
  • with a partner institution   
  • at our campus in Malaysia or Delhi  
  • on Study Abroad courses 
  • as an exchange or partner student 
  • on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses 
  • only pre-sessional English – pre-sessional English students with an offer to study at postgraduate level can still apply  

How to apply

  1. Apply to study a Faculty of Social Sciences programme

    Find a postgraduate taught programme and apply

  2. Complete the scholarship application form

    As part of your scholarship application you will be required to submit a supporting statement of up to 250 words explaining:

    • why you have selected your chosen course 
    • how your chosen course relates to your previous academic or professional experience 
    • how your chosen course relates to your future academic or professional goals
    • how your goals will contribute towards creating a more sustainable and inclusive world

    Late applications will not be accepted.

How we award

There are 5 stages in the shortlisting process.   

  1. We check that you meet the eligibility criteria.
  2. We score and rank the academic qualifications listed on your postgraduate application form.
  3. We score and rank the supporting statement included in your application.
  4. We shortlist candidates to recognise global talent.
  5. A panel chaired by the Dean of Social Sciences, or their nominated representative, decides who receives the scholarships.

This is a competitive process, and not all applications will be successful.

The scholarship panel's decision is final. We do not provide feedback on applications or decisions.

If your application is successful, you will receive a confirmation email and award letter.

If you're awarded more than one University of Southampton scholarship, you'll automatically receive the highest-value award.
