Dr Seth Giddings is Associate Professor of Digital Culture and Design at Winchester School of Art, the University of Southampton.
He is a media theorist with particular interests in cultures and economics of games, toys, and play; design for postdigital play; and Artificial Intelligence and robotics in art, games, and everyday life. He is the author of Gameworlds: virtual media and children’s everyday play (Bloomsbury 2014), editor of The New Media and Technocultures Reader (Routledge 2011), and co-author of New Media: a critical introduction (2nd ed. Routledge 2009). He recently co-edited (with Alison Harvey) a special issue of Games & Culture on ludic economies.
His current projects include: the Digital Suzhou festival in China; creative AI for industry and education in the UK and China; the relationship between the cultural and creative economy and domestic digital creativity and play; and a book on toys as technoculture. He is co-director of the Transforming Creativity research group and has established the Faculty of Arts and Humanities AI & Arts research network.
