Interdisciplinary Research Excellence

Work Futures Research Centre

The workplace is changing rapidly. Emerging digital technologies, environmental pressures, the ageing workforce, restructuring in the public sector and shifting patterns of economic migration are all impacting on the way we work.

The Work Futures Research Centre (WFRC) was founded in 2008 as one of the University of Southampton’s Strategic Research Groups to provide an interdisciplinary hub for a wide range of work-related research.

It continues to operate as an interdisciplinary research and consultancy hub coordinated by a core group of Directors supported by a wider Steering Group and Members, drawing in diverse expertise and interests from across the University of Southampton.

A large open-plan office with rows of desks and computers, with people working.

The centre provides cross disciplinary expertise for consultancy and as part of academic bids, to facilitate cross discipline research collaboration and innovation.  We disseminate our cutting-edge research, influence policy and practice though seminars, briefings, blogs and events, and showcase cutting-edge research on work and its futures.
