Our Staff

Key facts

Our academic staff members specialise in performance, music history and cultural studies, music analysis, composition and music technology.

For some disciplines, such as conducting and music therapy, we employ specialist staff who are leading practitioners in their fields.

Performance teaching is led by Professor David Owen Norris (Classical) and Dan Mar-Molinero (Jazz & Pop). They deliver and organise workshops and performance classes, working in close collaboration with our large team of instrumental and vocal coaches.

The administration team ensures the smooth running of the Music Department, providing invaluable support to students and staff alike.

Music is part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, which has a strong interdisciplinary ethos: staff members in English, Art, Film, History and Philosophy have expertise in music and sound. We also have collaborations with colleagues in Electronics and Computer Science, the School of Health Sciences, Southampton Business School and the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research.
