Louise Siddons is an internationally recognised, award-winning multidisciplinary researcher. As a cultural historian she focuses on intersectional visual resistance to structures of marginalisation in research and publications that cover topics from the eighteenth century to the present.
She is also an artist and choreographer whose practice-based work engages communities with hidden histories as a spur for participatory cultural innovation.
Her research has been supported by grants from Emmanuel College (Boston), the British Library, the English Folk Dance and Song Society, the Terra Foundation for American Art, the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities, the US-UK Fulbright Commission, the Country Dance and Song Society, the Alaska State Council on the Arts, and others. She is the author of two monographs as well as numerous exhibition catalogues and invited book chapters, and her research has been published in journals such as American Art, Frontiers, Panorama, the British Art Journal, and African American Review.
At Winchester School of Art she is the Director of The Winchester Gallery and teaches on Fine Art, Arts and Cultural Leadership, and Contemporary Curating; she also supervises PhD students.
