Prof. Tahsin Tezdogan received his PhD in 2015 from the University of Strathclyde, in the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering. His doctoral thesis was entitled "Potential Flow and CFD-Based Hydrodynamic Analyses of Mono- and Multi-Hull Vessels."

Prof. Tezdogan has a broad range of research interests, including CFD simulations of ship motions and resistance, the added resistance of ships in waves, and the performance of vessels in channels and canals. He has contributed to several internationally collaborative projects funded by the EU, the Newton Fund, and the Global Challenges Research Fund. More recently, he has led Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) projects, including Supercharging Wind Propulsion (CMDC4), GenDSOM: Leveraging Generative AI for Next-Generation Vessel Design and Manufacturing, and Streamlining High Fidelity Simulation for Wind Assisted Ship Development (CMDC6), advancing sustainable and zero-carbon shipping technologies.

To date, Prof. Tezdogan has published over 70 papers in high-ranking journals and presented at numerous international conferences and workshops. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the leading Q1 Elsevier journal Ocean Engineering, providing strategic leadership in publishing cutting-edge research in the field. He has also served as guest editor for special issues in Ocean Engineering and Applied Ocean Research.

Prof. Tezdogan has made strong contributions to education at Southampton, leading the Marine Hydrodynamics module and teaching across UG and PGT programmes. His teaching integrates advanced computational and experimental techniques, offering students a research-informed learning experience. He supervises MSc projects, Individual Projects, and Group Design Projects, often in collaboration with industry partners, and contributes to the Harbin Joint Education Institute (JEI) programme. As Director of MSc Admissions and Strategy within the School of Engineering, he leads programme development, marketing, and conversion activities, and drives international recruitment and partnership-building, particularly in Türkiye.

He has also held prominent roles within the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC), including membership of the Specialist Committee on Combined CFD/EFD Methods (2017–2021) and the Quality Systems Group (2017–2020). He currently serves on the 31st ITTC Seakeeping Committee.

He is a Fellow and Chartered Marine Engineer of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST), and has been a member of the Professional Affairs and Education Committee (PAEC) since May 2019. The PAEC sets academic and professional development standards, accredits programmes, and oversees recognition of relevant CPD courses.

From May 2022 to December 2023, Prof. Tezdogan was a member of the UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce (UKSST), a cross-sector initiative established by the Department for Education involving government, industry, and professional bodies. The Taskforce launched “A Step Change in UK Shipbuilding Skills” alongside a toolkit to support employers in leveraging the UK skills system.

He has also served as a reviewer and evaluator for major funding schemes, including EU Horizon 2020, the Newton Fund, and the International Science Partnership Fund (ISPF). Recently, he was invited to serve on the engineering panels of the national research councils of Portugal and Belgium.

In 2024, Prof. Tezdogan served on the local organising committee for G-NAOE 2024, an international conference co-hosted in Southampton by the Society of Naval Architects of Korea and Lloyd’s Register, which promoted collaboration among academia, research institutes, and industry. He has also contributed to OMAE, serving on its Short Course Committee and delivering a short course during OMAE 2019. He will also be coordinating a symposium for OMAE 2026 in Tokyo.
