Research project

Building a joint MSc in energy and sustainability to support global decarbonisation through transnational higher education

Project overview

This project focuses on the co-development of a joint/double MSc programme in Energy and Sustainability between the University of Southampton and Istanbul Technical University. The collaboration brings together two research-intensive institutions to address global challenges in energy transition, decarbonisation, and sustainable development through high-quality transnational higher education.

The project will deliver a collaboratively designed postgraduate curriculum aligned with international accreditation frameworks, industry needs, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Key activities include joint curriculum design workshops, technical seminars on energy systems and climate resilience, and a structured review of UK and Turkish regulatory requirements to support future joint or dual degree delivery.

By integrating research-led teaching, industry engagement, and professional body input, the project aims to strengthen postgraduate education in energy and sustainability while building long-term institutional capacity for international programme delivery. The outcomes will support the development of globally skilled graduates equipped to contribute to clean energy solutions, climate action, and sustainable infrastructure in the UK, Türkiye, and beyond.
