Patient and public involvement
We are always looking to involve patients and the public in shaping our research, including prioritisation of studies, understanding findings and representing patient voices at a larger scale through shaping strategy, policy and grant calls. We have worked with families on a number of patient stories, exemplifying how research can impact on IBD diagnosis and treatment:
Imogen's story
Imogen from Basingstoke, Hampshire, underwent a subtotal colectomy - where most of the colon is removed - in March, less than a year after being diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Georgia's story
Georgia is, her mum Laura says, a ‘complete treasure’ – a confident and chatty little girl who loves swimming and ballet and already says that she wants to be a doctor when she grows up.
“She loves being a patient too,” Laura says. “Which is just as well really, as Georgia has Crohn’s disease.”
Mia's story
Mia’s family have undergone genomic testing as part of Dr Ashton’s research: “It’s a really good thing that researchers are using genetic testing to help children with Crohn’s disease. As parents, we didn’t realise something like Crohn’s could be picked up in children as young as Mia"
We are delighted to announce that the next CICRA IBD Family Information Day will take place on Saturday 18th April 2026.
Our family days provide a valuable opportunity for families to:
