Work Futures Research Centre (WFRC)

Workers in a digital technology company working in an open-plan office space

Work Futures is an interdisciplinary research centre that specialises in impactful projects tackling some of the most pressing challenges facing paid and unpaid work.

We deliver leading expertise on labour market issues from digital labour to social care; new ways of working; employees on salaries, in precarious work, and on complex contracts; as well as the self-employed and under-employed. Our rigorous, cutting-edge research is the product of our ongoing collaboration with funders and partners, including the ESRC, AHRC, EPSRC, British Academy, Department for Work and Pensions, and Acas. Based at the University of Southampton, we provide applied policy expertise on work and employment, covering issues such as job quality, healthy working lives, skills, workforce inequalities, entrepreneurship, migration, the creative economy, technology and AI, productivity, industrial relations, hybrid working, green jobs, workforce well-being, and organisational belonging.
